Your first class

New to the mats?

Everything people ask before they step on for the first time.

I have never trained. Can I join?

Yes — most people start with no experience. Adults begin in Fundamentals, for white belts up to 3 stripes, and the morning Gi class is open to all levels.

How do I try a class?

Message us on WhatsApp or call to book. A Day Pass for a single class is Rs 1,500.

What should I bring?

Tell us which class you are coming to when you book and we will let you know what to wear and bring, and whether you need a gi.

How old do kids need to be?

Kids classes start at 3. There is a class for 3 to 5 year olds on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and one for 6 to 12 year olds every weekday.

Is it a good place for women to train?

Yes. Mikado has a growing group of women who train and compete for the gym, in a clean, safe and friendly room.

Gi or No Gi — which should I start with?

Either works. Gi classes run Monday to Friday; No Gi Grappling is on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Many members do both.

Our story

From the bench to black belt

Shaheryar KhalidFounder & head coach · BJJ black belt
  1. Childhood

The quiet kid, always avoiding trouble — and an easy target for it. Bullied, left on the bench in every sport he tried, and short on confidence.

  2. 2011

A friend dared him to sign up for a Pak Fight Club bout with no training and no experience. He lost the fight and found something more important: purpose.

  3. After

He joined a local MMA gym, won amateur bouts, and fell in love with the grappling — patience, problem-solving and staying calm in the middle of chaos. Still a white belt, he promised himself a black belt and a school of his own.

  4. 2023

Taught Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to kids and adults in Malaysia at GFTeam under Professor Pedro Falbo, growing as a coach and mentor.

  5. 2024

After 11 years of hard work, setbacks and growth he earned his black belt — and opened Mikado Jiu Jitsu the same year, to give others what jiu-jitsu gave him.

“To the talentless, God gave hunger — and everything was equal again.”
